Have you ever wondered what a waste - free world would be like? A world without litter, a world without waste, just a clean, hygienic, safe world for all of us to live in? It's sort of like a dream that we all have, right -- when we walk down the streets and see litter on the ground, we wish there was less and we would want to help decrease this amount. When we see these videos of how there are these big landfills or we see it in person, we feel downcast and wonder, how could I make these heaps be at least half the height? How could I decrease the amount of waste we all leave? How can we clean this world, to become a waste - free environment?
But we can do this. We can clean our world. Doing our part whether in our home, community, state or even more, how much of an impact you make is still an impact. We can make this goal, this dream reached, we can make it possible.
So
Let's . . .
Get . . .
Started.
First of all, the basic steps that you probably already know:
Reduce. Reduce what you buy, reduce what you eat, etc. This way, you can not only reduce how much you spend and your monthly costs: you can do a big change to the environment. After all, reducing is the most important of the three R's.
Reuse. Reuse materials that you would otherwise throw away. For example, if you had a lunch bag from last year, and it was pretty durable, don't throw it away: use it again this year. It might not be the latest trend, but you're combining reducing and reusing together by doing this, which is good for the environment.
Recycle. Recycling is important. A lot of times, people get lazy and they put everything that they don't want in the trash, possibly even making those land dumps way higher. Some places and communities don't even have recycling bins although the term is very popular. Recycling is very necessary since without it, many more things would just be one - time use and our land dumps would be half the height higher, not lower!
Don't litter. I know I've said this before, but this is super important. Many of you, I believe, would probably see litter every day. Out in the parks, in the fields, in the sidewalks, near reservoirs, in the roads, everywhere. It usually consists of cigarette butts, paper, food wrappers, water bottles, plastic bags, straws, etc. So, not smoking is the first option: it's unhealthy and cigarette butts are anyways the top littering source! But if you do use them, try to find cleaner ways of disposing them: you can throw them in the garbage instead of on the ground, but you could make a bigger impact by sending them to specific recycling organizations! And many times, things you think are litter actually aren't: it's sometimes trash that tends to float away in the wind especially from trash or recycling bins that are kept outside during a windy day. You could instead try to figure out a way to hold them down so this doesn't happen.
Those aren't the only ways. Check these out!
Be creative and make something with leftover items -- how about do an art project -- for example . . . a miniature village! Helping the environment doesn't have to be boring. It can be creative and fun! You can use all items that might otherwise go to the trash: from empty milk cartons to newspaper clippings to cardboard pieces to leftover pom - poms. You could make thousands of crafts with these items. You can make history posters. You can make little cards (and even more: you could make them to give comfort to others). And if you have the time, you could even make a village! From water - bottle restaurants to cardboard + newspaper houses to pretzel figures to paper trees, you can make your little town alive.
Encourage others that smaller might be the way to go. Try to campaign for smaller items, housing, and food portions (especially if your area has too big food portions in food services). You could make your title brief and something like, "Smaller is Smarter" and show reasons why. And there are. Having a smaller house takes up less space, and therefore you don't have to cut as many trees to clear the area and as many to build the house. Smaller items need less manufacturing, releasing less fossil fuels into the air. And smaller food portions (if they're not already just enough) would lead to less food waste, less manufacturing, and less methane released into the air.
Donate to orphanages. What about that? You're supporting two causes at the same time. By donating, you're giving to charity and helping children and at the same time cleaning the world. Donating can help a lot. Instead of throwing away usable and otherwise durable toys and clothes, consider donating them first. By doing this, you're brightening people's lives and using sustainable and environmentally - friendly methods.
So, as you can see, there are many ways to create a waste - free world. By being creative and sharing the ideas and thoughts, we can clean this world and achieve our dream, fulfilling our wish for a better place.
