Although many businesses have a bad reputation for being not really eco - friendly or polluting too much by transportation, such as worldwide chains, many businesses you might have never heard of are doing lots of good and getting lots of good in return, both in the sustainability matter and other matters.
There are even fast-food chains that are fresher and do good than you think they are. When you think of fast - food, you usually think of McDonald's, Burger King, etc., etc., but there are others that you might not expect that are doing good.
Chick - Fil - A. Although Chick - Fil - A has a lot of space to improve, it's still trying to be sustainable in some ways. They tried to waste less food through the Shared Table Program (giving food to those in need) and some have participated in a composting program. Not only that, but they also try to serve chicken without any chemicals or hormones and try to be sustainable with energy. Again, this is only in some ways, especially because of how much plastic there is, the limited veg options, and other factors.
Chipotle. Even though Chipotle isn't 100% perfect either, it's also a chain that's really trying and somewhat healthier than others. Chipotle has also been focusing on getting more food from local sources instead of being imported, composts a lot of food, increased renewable energy, created "The Real Foodprint", and has a lot of vegetarian options. It definitely can improve but is a good fast-food chain in this overall.
Burgerville. Burgerville, a fast - food chain in the northwestern region of the U.S., isn't as heard of yet does much to help this world environmentally. It has local, seasonal items that come and go from the menu based on if they're ripe and in season instead of keeping them year - round and importing from other places. Its beef and cheese come fresh from Oregon where cows are fed grass and its buns are baked in Oregon, the wheat coming from Washington, the neighboring state. Through its Seedlings Program, it gives kids seeds to plant and supports local farmers instead of disposable plastic toys.
To conclude, some fast - food chains aren't the worst when it comes to sustainability. Next time, when you consider going to a fast - food chain, you should probably think about going to a more local, sustainable restaurant. But if only fast - food is available to you for some reason, maybe if you wanted your food served to you quick, then it's advisable to do some quick research to find which is the best one for you in terms of eco - friendliness and sustainability. And if you want to do more, consider raising your voice to large corporations to have a more open view and to realize the importance of a more sustainable, renewable culture in fast - food.
Try to reduce eating fast food as much as you can, but if you're one of those who have trouble in sticking to something, try this as an alternative, and let's help fast - food chains to become sustainable and be looked at under a new light.
