Do you know approximately how many chicken wings and drumsticks are consumed during the Super Bowl?
Around 1.4 billion.
Yeah, you heard that right. That's basically over an eighth of the entire human population.
Around the world, people eat tens of billions of chickens annually, many during sport seasons.
Whether it's breaded, barbeque, baked, fried, or whatever, many people buy buckets of chicken to eat during this time purely out of enjoyment and the feeling to relax with junk food.
But this largely increases the number of animals killed, putting in a bad name for us.
So, what are some alternatives to this almost - irresistible food during popular sports events such as the Super Bowl?
Vegetarian Pizza. Pizza is still a celebratory meal, and, especially if homemade and vegetarian, is a more animal and eco - friendly choice than chicken by the circumstances of carbon emissions and saving animals.
Onion rings, fries, and chips. Although these are also a bit unhealthy, they're great vegetarian sides to meals during these events and taste just as good.
Vegetarian Paninis, Sliders and Sandwiches. From caprese to a simple burger with a veggie patty, you could eat a lot of vegetables in a healthy, enjoyable, exciting way.
Whole - Wheat Tortillas and Sides. Nothing beats a quesadilla on a Sunday. Especially if it's whole wheat (or a regenerative gluten free flour blend), knocking off veggies such as beans, tomatoes, onions, etc., is way healthier, vegetarian and environmentally friendly than chicken.
Crunchy Salads. If you get some leaves such as lettuce, some beans, tomatoes, olives, parmesan, and a bunch of croutons and dressing to top it all off, you can get a variety of healthy vegetables into your diet and enjoy a tasty meal to enjoy as you settle in to cheer for your favorite players.
So, as you can see, there's much to think about when you plan a special sporty dinner, be it the World Cup, the Super Bowl, etc. But whatever it may be, keep in mind that billions of animals, a lot of them chickens, are killed every year just for us, so you could put your money more on veggies and other vegetarian ingredients instead of meats such as chicken. This will definitely help many chickens out there in danger of being killed.
