Did you know that being a climatarian can decrease your CO2 emissions by about1.5 tonnes every year?

And for those who don't want to give up meat in their diet, well, in this one, you don't have to!

So, what is a climatarian?

A climatarian is someone who seeks sustainable, local, and eco - friendly ways to help the planet and reduce their carbon footprint, especially through their diet.

Many climatarians have different preferences. Some climatarians prefer chicken or lamb over beef because they are more sustainable and eco - friendly choices, while others are sort of like vegetarians for this reason because they have a lower emission rate.

A climatarian may also reduce the amount of dairy they consume, such as cheese and butter. Since it is supposed to contribute 3 - 4% of GHG emissions to the atmosphere, it's better to watch out. For milk, as an example, it produces almost thrice the amount of any milk such as almond milk or soy milk.

Lastly, a climatarian might also decide to eat locally and seasonally. This means that they might have a garden or small farm in their own space and grow vegetables and fruits to eat as part of their diet, along with local market food, such as from the farmer's market. So, by the season, they eat the different foods that grow in their particular region at different times.

Climatarian needs and requirements vary depending on the person. Some climatarians decide to limit eating water intensive foods. Others decide to limit meats with large CO2 emissions, such as beef.

According to the NY Times, if the global population decreased eating red meat from three and a half to two and a half servings weekly for just one year, it would decrease emissions so one third of the Paris Agreement would be reached.

So, as you can see, food is an important part of our everyday lives, yet it's also an important topic in climate change, as well. If we all control how we eat in a way that helps the planet and helps us become healthier, we will be a big step closer to success in dealing with climate change. And starting with a climatarian diet is a good way to solve this.
